HomeLibrarian Android Privacy Policy

Effective November 2, 2026

HomeLibrarian helps you catalogue household documents and physical containers. This policy describes the Android app, including use on its own and when paired with the HomeLibrarian desktop app. Contact us at support@homelibrarian.com with privacy questions.

Information you put in the app

You may enter item names, descriptions, keywords, locations, QR identifiers, household profile names, check-out and check-in details, and photographs. The app stores its catalogue in a local database and keeps photographs in its app storage on your phone. It also stores app settings and, if you pair with a desktop, connection and device identifiers needed to recognize that pairing.

Camera and phone security

With your permission, the app uses the camera to scan QR codes and take item photographs. Scans and photographs are used for the feature you choose; photographs you save become part of your local catalogue. The app can ask Android to unlock it using your phone's screen lock. HomeLibrarian does not receive your screen-lock secret or biometric data.

Pairing and transfer

The app works without a HomeLibrarian cloud account. If you choose to pair it with a desktop computer, the phone and desktop exchange catalogue records, permitted photographs, profile and access information, and device identifiers over your local network. The connection uses device pairing and a pinned, encrypted connection. Other household members may see records that the desktop administrator has allowed their paired phones to access. The Android app does not send the catalogue to HomeLibrarian's website as part of ordinary use.

Backups and sharing

When an eligible administrator creates a backup, the app writes a password-protected encrypted ZIP archive containing the available catalogue and photographs. You choose where to save or share that archive. Anyone who has both the archive and its password may be able to restore its contents, so keep them secure. Android's automatic app-data backup is disabled for HomeLibrarian.

Information sent to us

The Android app does not require sign-in to our website and does not contain advertising or app analytics. We do not receive your catalogue through the app. If you separately visit our website, send us a message, or contact support, we receive the information you choose to provide there. Website account, licensing, and feedback services are separate from the Android app's local catalogue.

Your choices and deletion

You control the records you add and can edit or delete them in the app, subject to any household access rules when paired. You can stop using the pairing and uninstall the app to remove its local app data from your phone. Removing the phone's data does not remove copies already synchronized to the desktop or backup archives you saved elsewhere. To remove those copies, use the desktop app or delete your saved archives. If you contacted us separately and want us to delete your message or support correspondence, email support@homelibrarian.com.

Children and changes

HomeLibrarian is intended for household record keeping and is not directed to children. We may update this policy when the app's behavior changes. The effective date above will show the latest published version.
